Greetings

Thanks to Micah for adding me to this blog, looks like we're getting something pretty sweet rolling.

I've been doing a lot of portraits lately, so I wanted to post this one and get some feedback. General craft/anatomy issues, and also: background or no? And if yes, what?

This is a guy I met in Alabama while doing Habitat for Humanity (Alternative Spring Break). High school student from Ontario, Canada. Cool people, awesome time.

Anyways, feel free to fire me feedback or check out some other work on Flickr: www.flickr.com/photos/27768278@N08

Have a good week!

hey cole.

colored pencils are hard to use without making the colors muddy and dull. because the paper always shows through the rough marks of the pencil, your colors will be effect accordingly. maybe deliberately use a colored ground to work on/from.

also, its sort of the standard "decapitated" portrait. just because its a portrait doesn't mean you can't crop into the picture, try dynamic angles, etc. and though it takes more pre-thought, deciding the background/setting may look better. figuring it out after can make it look like you're just filling in neutral space around a head.

Dude, keep up the good work... one of the most important things that i think every piece needs, in order to get from "not-quite-there" stage to finish, is the willingness to wreck it in the process of making it way better. In other words, be bold.

Rock on!
